Passenger Assistant Trainer Scheme (PATS)

The Passenger Assistant Trainer Scheme (PATS) is a sister programme to the MiDAS programme for minibus drivers, and provides a tailored course of training for situations where passengers are considered vulnerable. While MiDAS covers the driving aspect of minibus operation, the course is suitable for drivers if they are involved in the dual role of being both the driver of a minibus and responsible for passenger assistance. Drivers and passenger assistants are often put in the situation where they have a duty of care to passengers, and many organisations have begun to understand that their staff/volunteers and passengers alike would benefit from a standard of training for drivers and passenger assistants in order to maximise their knowledge and abilities.

The PATS course will allow companies operating road vehicle transport services to improve staff/volunteer and passenger safety and comfort, in addition to meeting legal and contractual requirements. The course also develops additional skills and a wider knowledge of what is required for the work involved in passenger assistance.

Organisations that undertake this scheme of training stand to benefit from increasing the confidence and reducing the stress of their staff/volunteers, while also increasing the image of their organisation by having formal accreditation and qualification of standards for the work involved in transport and passenger assistance.
