MiDAS Car & MPV Driver
The MiDAS Car & MPV Driver course is a sister programme of the highly successful and nationally recognised Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme that we also provide. It is designed to enhance driving standards in small passenger carrying vehicles and cars with up to 8 passenger seats. The course is designed to meet the needs of organisations that operate these vehicles exclusively or as part of a large mixed fleet, and also to help operators of these smaller vehicles in meeting their health and safety obligations.
The course is designed to be applicable to any organisation using vehicles for transportation of passengers, from small voluntary organisations, to local authorities operating large fleets of vehicles, in addition to schools, colleges and universities.
This course is an extension of the MiDAS Driver course, and therefore some elements which are relevant to minibus and car/MPV driving are common to both courses, while the rest of the course is specific to car/MPV driving.
The MiDAS Car & MPV Driver is delivered using classroom based theory and practical sessions, and is followed by a multiple choice theory assessment. Topics that are covered in these sessions and the theory assessment include:
- Defensive driving
- Legal responsibilities of drivers
- Passenger safety
- Passenger awareness
- Manual handling awareness
- Health and safety awareness
- Emergency procedures
- Personal safety for drivers
If there are drivers of accessible MPV vehicles undertaking the course, the following topics will be covered for theory and practical assessment:
- Safe use of passenger lifts or ramps
- Correct use of wheelchair tie-downs and passenger safety belts
- Legal and good practice guidelines related with these topics
In addition, there is usually an on-road observation of drivers undertaking the course, although this is optional in some circumstances.
The length of this course is dependent on the number of people attending the training sessions. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs and arrangements required.
